Discovering the best places to eat is one of the joys of a great holiday.
We know that everyone likes different foods, but we want to help you find the most amazing places to eat.
We’ve put together a list of our absolute favourites – the top 25 best places to eat in Pembrokeshire. All have received excellent reviews from trusted locals and other guests. With dog friendly options, postcodes and distances from Preseli Hills Cottages provided, your dining experience is just a short drive away.
Newport (north coast 20 mins drive SA42 0SY) Lovely village and beach. Both the beach on the east side by Newport Golf Club as well as the one on the village side are lovely, there is a café called Cat Rock Café actually in the golf club house which is open to everyone and dogs in one part which is good.
PWNC is a stylish little café in the heart of Newport, perfect for excellent coffee (they serve our favourite Coal Town Coffee), fresh pastries and beautifully simple brunch dishes (including vegan options). A lovely spot for a relaxed breakfast before a coastal walk or a mid-morning pause while exploring the village.
The pubs in the village, particularly The Castle (amazing fresh menu and fabulous gluten free options) and the Golden Lion are great. You can reserve a table in the bar if you have a dog (best to ring and book) or you can eat in the award-winning restaurant at Llys Meddyg. You will also find some nice shops there including a good butchers and a café called The Canteen which has a great reputation.

Fishguard (north coast 30 min drive) is up and coming with some fabulous new cafes and restaurants. Ffwrn is a restaurant, bar and events venue situated opposite St Mary’s Church in Fishguard. “Ffwrn” is the Welsh word for oven, and their craft-constructed, wood-burning oven sits at the heart of both the menu and the room – bringing bold, fire-led cooking and a wonderful warmth to the space. It is open Thursday – Saturday 6pm – 10:30pm (kitchen closes 9pm), and Sunday lumch 12pm – 6pm (kitchen closes 3pm). A great choice for a relaxed but memorable evening, often with live music.
Pei opened recently, promising proper comfort food done well. The menu centres around three locally made signature pies – minced beef and onion, chicken and mushroom, and parsnip and butternut squash – alongside two rotating specials, all served with mashed potato, peas and gravy.
Mannings is a long-established, family-run café and green grocers (great for foodie gifts) in the heart of Fishguard, known for its warm welcome and consistently good food.
Red Onion Garden Café is a lovely countryside café in Scleddau, just a few mins from Fishguard, set among a charming kitchen garden that’s perfect on a sunny day. Known for brunches, vibrant salads, homemade cakes and excellent coffee – it’s particularly good for vegans. A highly recommended relaxed and welcoming spot for a leisurely lunch or mid-morning pause.
Llansteffan (south east, just into Carmarthenshire but WORTH every moment of the 30 min drive) Lucky enough to be taken to Inn At the Sticks Teej recently. Oh my goodness!!! And I used to be a chef. Amazing local food made into tapas style dining. Honestly the best meal we have had in ages. Fresh sea bass, wonderful prawns, pork that melted in your mouth. I could go on and on – it’s fabulous.
There is also a great coastal walk from the village so an Ideal place to go for a walk and then have a meal. Highly highly recommended but do book. Just to mention they have a chef’s table with views of the kitchen which would be super special and they have recently opened a Deli which kindly stocks our very own Golden Road Gin.
Martletwy (south of us on a man-made lake 20 mins drive SA67 8AB) – Wild Lakes is a fun aqua park, wakeboard place with a fab informal dining in a tipi. Really fresh food, it is fun to enjoy a meal whilst watching people learn to wake board. Fun atmosphere, dog friendly with music and a surf-i.e., type vibe.
Dale (southwest coast 50 mins drive SA62 3RB) is a small beach, a beautiful place for paddle boarding and swimming, it is sheltered most of the time. The Griffin pub prepares great fish.
Bosherston Lilly Ponds (south coast 46 mins drive SA71 5DF) – Beautiful and a good walk. You can walk to Barafundle Beach from there in about 1 hour. In high season it can be busy, and parking can be a bit tricky. If you are a member of the National Trust, then you can use your membership there. Our favourite pub to eat near there is the Stackpole Inn. Dogs allowed in one of the bars and in the garden.
Porthgain (north west coast 43 mins by car SA62 5BN) – We love the Shed at Porthgain , they do the BEST fish and chips in our opinion. Really light tempura batter and they also stock Pollock which is a sustainable fish and delicious. Again, a good one to book ahead if you want a table however if it is dry, it is great to sit on the harbour wall and eat watching the waves with a takeaway.
The Sloop Inn in Porthgain, which dates back to 1743, is one of Pembrokeshire’s most beloved pubs—and for a good reason! It has a cozy, historic feel inside and a lovely sunlit seating area at the entrance. The pub serves lunch and dinner, with a highlight being the fresh crab caught daily just 200 yards away at Porthgain harbour. You won’t find any “food miles” here!
Tenby (south coast, 43 mins drive SA0 7RG) – If you are planning to visit Tenby then there is a restaurant near there on a golf course which is fab, at Trefloyne Manor you can have lunch in their Orangery, overlooking the golf course – just a warning though it is not dog friendly and you will want to be looking on the smarter side of casual, nothing too formal but probably not shorts and T-shirt. There are loads of less formal places in Tenby itself however if you want a litter ‘smarter’ meal it is a great spot.
Narberth (market town 20 mins south SA67 7AU) – full of independents including a fabulous food hall called Hwb serving street food. Some of our favourites include Fforc which is an ideal brunch spot with local sourced ingredients – Plum Vanilla a lovely lunch spot with plenty of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options – and the The Star Inn which serves real ales, good wine and premium spirits (including our gin!) alongside pies and nibbles in the evening.
Saundersfoot (SA69 9HE) – For a superb seafood experience overlooking Saundersfoot harbour, check out The Stone Crab! This cozy spot is perfect for a casual meal, with a menu focused on fresh, locally caught seafood. With its small size, it’s a good idea to book ahead, especially if you want to sit outside and enjoy the view.
Cardigan (north coast 25 mins by car SA43 1EZ) – GRAIN is great, right on the river and they often have live music. It is outdoors but some under cover. Great atmosphere, fabulous pizza’s. For the BEST breakfast head to Crwst, best to book but well worth the effort. Yr Hen Printworks, a Michelin accredited restaurant and our favourite for a treat or celebration, is located in the town’s historic Old Hope Chapel. The menu is based around small plates, drawing in premium local ingredients and global influences.
Laugharne (south coast 35 mins drive SA33 4RY) – Dexters at Browns is a fabulous farm to fork restaurant. A very atmospheric and tasteful environment lovely for a luxurious meal in an intimate setting. We have eaten there several times and absolutely love it.
Pembroke – home of the fabulously unique Paternoster Farm restaurant which is located in a rustic barn, and serves a hyper seasonal set menu (dietary requirements are unfortunately not catered for) in a very relaxed atmosphere on a Friday and Saturday night only. Booking is recommended and their diary opens 3 months ahead.
We do recommend calling ahead, especially during off-peak seasons when some establishments may have unconventional opening hours. Happy exploring and enjoy your culinary adventures!
