Finding the best dog-friendly places to eat is one of the joys of a great holiday.
Everyone has their own favourite foods, but we want to help you discover some amazing spots to enjoy with your furry family members. We’ve put together a list of our favourite dog-friendly places to eat in and around Pembrokeshire, all with great reviews from locals and visitors.
We do recommend booking ahead and letting them know you’re bringing your dog, as some places have only a few tables set aside for dog families. This way, they’ll be ready to welcome you. Happy exploring with your four-legged friend!

Newport
(north coast 20 mins drive SA42 0SY) Lovely village and beach. Both the beach on the east side by Newport Golf Club as well as the one on the village side are lovely, there is a café called Cat Rock Café actually in the golf clubhouse. The pubs in the village, particularly The Castle (amazing fresh menu and fabulous gluten free options) and the Golden Lion are great. You can reserve a table in the bar if you have a dog (best to ring and book) or you can eat in the restaurant.
- Llys Meddyg’s secret garden restaurant is also good, we have also heard great things about Tides Kitchen & Wine Bar apparently they serve excellent food and have a great courtyard out the back. You will also find some nice shops there including a good butchers and a café called The Canteen which has a great reputation.

Llansteffan
(south east, just into Carmarthenshire but WORTH every moment of the 30 min drive) Lucky enough to be taken to Inn At the Sticks Teej recently. Oh my goodness!!! And I used to be a chef. Amazing local food made into tapas style dining. Honestly the best meal we have had in ages. Fresh sea bass, wonderful prawns, pork that melted in your mouth. I could go on and on – it’s fabulous.
- There is also a great coastal walk from the village so an Ideal place to go for a walk and then have a meal. Highly highly recommended but do book. Just to mention they have a chef’s table with views of the kitchen which would be super special and they have recently opened a Deli which kindly stocks our very own Golden Road Gin.

Martletwy
(south of us on a man-made lake 20 mins drive – SA67 8AB) Wild Lakes is a fun aqua park, wakeboard place with a fab informal dining in a tipi. Really fresh food, it is fun to enjoy a meal whilst watching people learn to wake board. Fun atmosphere with music and a surf-i.e., type vibe.
-
Dale
(southwest coast 50 mins drive SA62 3RB) is a small beach, a beautiful place for paddle boarding and swimming, it is sheltered most of the time. The Griffin pub prepares great fish, dogs are only allowed on the roof terrace in the summer months so book ahead and you will get wet if it rains.
-
Bosherston Lilly Ponds
(south coast 46 mins drive SA71 5DF) Beautiful and a good walk. You can walk to Barafundle Beach from there in about 1 hour. In high season it can be busy, and parking can be a bit tricky. If you are a member of the National Trust, then you can use your membership there. Our favourite pub to eat near there is the Stackpole Inn. Dogs allowed in one of the bars and in the garden.

Porthgain –
(north west coast 43 mins by car SA62 5BN) We also love The Shed at Porthgain (43 mins by car from SA62 5BN). They serve the BEST fish and chips with a light tempura batter and delicious, sustainable Pollock. It’s wise to book ahead for a table, if it’s dry, you can enjoy a takeaway on the harbour wall while watching the waves. This small, cosy spot is fabulous but might not suit dogs needing a lot of space. Alternatively, you can order fish and chips to enjoy on the harbour wall. Note that the full menu isn’t available for takeout.
-
Narberth –
(15 minutes south of us Car Park – SA67 7AG) – Mad Toms a fabulous fish restaurant is extremely popular, so you need to book early. They allow dogs in the restaurant at lunchtime between 12 and 2.30 but not in the evening.
-
Solva
(west coast 44 mins by car SA62 6UU) we have had great words from guests about Mamgu for a Welsh Cake experience.
-
Cardigan
(north coast 25 mins by car SA43 1EZ) – the Pizza Tipi is great, right on the river and they often have live music. It is outdoors but some under cover. Great atmosphere, fabulous pizza’s – You need to book and can online at – For the BEST breakfast head to Crwst, best to book but well worth the effort.
-
Laugharne
(south coast 35 mins drive SA33 4RY)- Dexters at Browns is a fabulous farm to fork restaurant. A very atmospheric and tasteful environment lovely for a luxurious meal in an intimate setting. We have eaten there several times and absolutely love it.
-
Gluten Free
(Newport – north coast 20 mins drive SA42 0SY)Our best suggestion, which really is brilliant is The Castle Pub in Newport – fabulous menu, freshly prepared from scratch and really lovely people.
These are the best dog-friendly eateries we’ve found so far, but there are undoubtedly many more to discover on platforms like TripAdvisor.
Who knows, you might stumble upon an even better dining experience that we haven’t discovered yet!
We recommend calling ahead, especially during off-peak seasons when some establishments may have unconventional opening hours. Happy exploring and enjoy your culinary adventures!
Best wishes
Jen and Phil Wheeler
